How to Register or Activate QuickBooks Desktop?

QuickBooks Desktop requires registration and activation after installing the same for the first time. If you are using multiple copies of QuickBooks desktop, you are required to register or activate them one by one. You can either register or activate manually, or QuickBooks Desktop will automatically do the same. In order to register QuickBooks Desktop 2016 or newer versions, you are required to carry out the below mentioned steps:

Important Point to Know Before Registering QuickBooks

Before you go for activation or registration of QuickBooks software, ensure that you bear the following points in mind.




· Check the status of QuickBooks by clicking on ‘F2’ key. Subsequently, check if the copy is Activated or Not.

  • While activation if you receive the error message ‘The validation code is wrong’ then ensure that License and the Product number is correct.


  • Ensure that you have I.E 11 with TLS 1.2 enabled in your O/S.


QuickBooks Desktop for Windows Computers:


After installing QuickBooks software, you will need to activate it before accessing it. A window shall pop up on the screen which shall ask you to activate the software. Besides, you can also activate the QuickBooks Desktop manually by following the below mentioned steps:


· Open the QuickBooks Desktop software and press the ‘F2’ key.

· The ‘Product Information’ window will show up.

· Check for the registration status at the right hand side of the ‘License number’.

· Check if the registration status states ‘activated’ or ‘Not Activated’.

· If QuickBooks is not activated then follow the given mentioned below:

o Click on the ‘Ok’ tab to close the ‘Product Information’ window.

o Navigate to ‘Help’ menu and click on the ‘Activate QuickBooks’ option.

o Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the activation process.



QuickBooks Desktop for Mac Computers:

To activate or register QuickBooks for Mac Computers, follow the steps given below:

· Open QuickBooks and go to the ‘menu’ tab.

· Click on the ‘Register QuickBooks’ option.

· Enter the ‘License Number’ and ‘Product Number’ and then click on ‘Next’ tab.

· Click on the ‘Register Online’ option.

· Follow the instructions that follow on the screen and complete the registration


For QuickBooks Desktop 2016 and Earlier Versions

· The older versions of QuickBooks, before the 2016 version, have been stopped before to the 2016 version. Such versions cannot be registered. However, older versions can be re-registered in case they had been registered previously.
