How to Recover Lost Data With QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery?

Being a frequent QuickBooks user, you might be using the Data Services to restore data from damaged QuickBooks data files. However, you may easily recover your data by utilizing the QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery (ADR) tool in the event of data loss or corruption.

The utility allows you to produce a replica QuickBooks Company file (.QBW) and a QuickBooks Transaction Log file (.QBW.tlg). This article shall unravel all the benefits offered by the feature and shall also provide a brief yet invaluable walkthrough to recover lost data using Auto Data Recovery.

Steps to Recover Lost Data With QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery Tool?

Auto Data Recovery is a QuickBooks file restoration solution that is regarded as one of the most efficient methods for retrieving lost data in the software. Let's take a closer look at each of the methods for using the tool to recover your lost data.

Method 1: Use the ‘.TLG’ file with ‘.QBW’ .adr file

Follow the below steps to recover the lost data by using the original Transaction Log file and the current version of ADR:

• First and foremost, you are required to create a new folder on the Desktop and name it 'QBTest.'

• Then, open the folder where you have originally saved your company file. The location of the same can be viewed on the 'Product Information screen' that can be assessed by pressing the 'F2' key or the 'Ctrl + 1' keys.

• When you arrive at the location, look in the company file folder for the '.tlg' file. Your company file will have the same name as the company file you're looking for.

• If you can't find the '.tlg' file, use the methods below to reveal the file extension:

o Access the 'File Explorer' by hitting the 'Win + E' keys simultaneously.

o To proceed ahead, choose the option 'Organize' and then move to the 'Folder' and 'Search' options.

o For Windows 10, 8.1, and 8, go to the 'View' menu and then to FileName Extension.

o Then, under 'Hide Extensions for Known File Types, choose the 'Hide Extensions for Known File Types' option and choose 'Apply.'

o Click on 'OK.'

• Copy the file (by selecting the file and pressing the 'Ctrl + C' keys) and paste the file (by hitting the 'Ctrl + V' keys) into the QBTest folder which you created earlier on the Desktop.

• Subsequently, head to the location where your company file is saved and run the QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery folder.

• Copy and paste the 'QBW.adr' file into the 'QBTest' folder.

• Right-click the '. QBW.adr' file in the QBTest folder and choose 'Rename.' Then, at the end of the file name, remove the '.adr' extension.

• Open the company file you saved in the QuickBooks Test folder in QuickBooks. Then, using the account register, double-check all your transactions.

• Check the data integrity of the recovered file by performing the following steps:

• Verify Data can be found by navigating to the 'File,' followed by the 'Utilities' option.

• If this copy of the damaged file is stable, you can save it to some different location. You must, however, copy the file from the 'QBTest' folder to the original location.

Method 2: Use the '.QBW. adr' and '.TLG.adr' files

This is another easy method to recover the lost data by using auto data recovery. However, before proceeding ahead with this method, you need to make sure by using this method, you can only recover the recent 12-hour-old transactions.

• First, create a new folder on your Desktop named 'QBTest.'

• Now, head to the 'QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery' folder and double-click on it.

• After that, copy and paste the '.TLG.adr' and. ' QBW.adr files into the 'QBTest' folder.

• In the 'QBTest' Folder, create. 'QBW' and. 'TLG files.

• Make sure Windows is set to 'show hidden files before you start.

• Now, right-click the file and remove '.adr' from the end of the file name in the QBTest folder. It will generate '.qbw' and '.tlg' files for you.

• After that, open the QuickBooks Desktop software and access the Company File from the 'QBTest' folder.

• Check to see if all of your transactions got saved.

• Now, navigate to 'File,' followed by 'Utilities,' and finally choose the 'Verify Data' to see if your data is still intact.

• You can move the damaged file to a different location if this copy of the company file is fine. You'll also be able to relocate the copy from the 'QBTest' folder and paste the same into the original QuickBooks company file folder.
